There are 2 IED Milano Libraries: the "Franca Sozzani" Reading Room, dedicated to fashion (with large sections on art, marketing and fashion photography), and the Library of Design, Communication, Visual Arts, where you can find material on art, architecture and design, marketing and communication, graphics, illustration, jewels, photography and new media.
The libraries offer students almost 15,000 volumes, most of which are in open-shelf service, and therefore freely accessible in the reading areas.
The Dewey Decimal Classification (DDC), a universally valid bibliographic classification, has been applied to the collections.

The collection is of a specialist nature and aims to meet the information requirements of students and lecturers. The acquisition criteria are based on: course educational needs, updating of existing material, new publications in our areas of interest, coverage of thematic shortcomings, provision of catalogues of the main national and international exhibitions, user requests if deemed relevant.

The collection is also upgraded by the acquisition of important donations, such as the Nando Miglio Collection and the Franca Sozzani Collection. Given their value, the volumes are available for consultation only.

The lending service is not envisaged for volumes of the following types:

- dictionaries, encyclopaedias and works of general interest
- didactic material to support the courses and for more immediate consultation
- periodicals and yearbooks
- works in poor condition

Library shelf guide:

Books are grouped on the shelves by topic, and also according to course didactic requirements (see classification attached).
Specific subclasses are identified using the Dewey Decimal Classification method. If you find more than three digits on the book label, it means that the topic of the book has been expressed by the librarian in an increasingly accurate and detailed manner according to the DDC method.
The shelving order of books is primarily in numerical order; the secondary order is alphabetical (three letters below the numbers that usually identify the author of the book: 741.69 BER).

If you have any problems with the labels or the shelving order of the books, please ask your librarian.
